First steps into the World of Motorsport- looking for work experience opportunities

Posted by: Barbara - Posted: May 11, 2021

My name is Barbara.

I am head over heels in love with motorsport, especially with the formula series. A few years ago, I had the chance to look behind the scenes of a race weekend, and I was completely overjoyed. It was amazing to see how much hard work it takes to make a race happen. On that day I realised, that this is what I want to do in the future, this is the place, where I want to work. The bustling paddock, the sound of the engines and the smell of the fuel is something that calls me back to the track.

A brief description about myself:
I am a first-year law student at the University of Vienna, and I graduated in an Austrian Highschool in Budapest. I speak English and German fluently (C1 language certificate).
Although I have never worked in the world of motorsport, I have some working- experiences as a hostess by an open-air theatre and in international summer camps.
Therefore, I am sure, that my coordinating and fast-learning skills as well as my acquired knowledge are adaptable for the trackside work.

As I am studying, I am only able to work in my summer break (July, August, September). During these months I am open to any type of trackside (voluntary) work, as I would like to gain some work experience and learn from the experts first-hand to base my future.
I would be delighted to make my first steps in the formula series (incl. Formula-E and the W-Series) alongside a racing team (legal departments of racing teams would really interest me) or helping the PR (Hospitality) department or any other available opportunities might interest me.

It would be marvellous, if anybody could help me to make my first steps into this amazing world!

Thank you for your kind reply to my post.
I am looking forward to the opportunities in the future, wether in any of the formula- series or even in DTM or WTCR.

My behind the scenes expereience was during a WTCR race weekend, where I won a hot lap (fast lap) with a racing driver. Due to some unexpected issues the hot lap was resceduled to the next day, but thanks to those issues I could walk around with the organizers and some team members. During the breaks I could have a conversation with them and learn about their job and their life. But the weekend’s most valuable part (besides the amazing hot lap) was that I could observe how they organised things.

Thank you for your advices, your help is greatly appreciated.
I would be delighted to be informed of any updates.

Have a nice day!

Good Morning Barbara,

You are most welcome, it is why we set this organisation up. Young people like yourself need the support and guidance after their education to enter into what is an ultra-competitive place and industry to work in, but that’s all a part of the challenge!

Anyway, I hope all is well?

Have you had any more responses or have there been any developments you can share with your career drive?

I have finally found a chance to gain some work experience in the world of motorsport! I spent my weekend volunteering at the Hungarian GP at the Hungaroring. It was really amazing to help the Team of the Hungaroring and be a part of the crew.

Good Morning Barbara,

Sorry, we’re comign back to you a little slowly.

How did the weekend go at the Hungaroring, it sounded like an amazing opportunity! Well done!

We’d love to share your thoughts, experience and bets bits on the weekend as perhaps a feature, we’re all about raising your profile and showcasing what you do?

Did you take any images, video for example? I think perhaps we could suggest a video diary from yourself which could attract potential employers or more opportunities for further work experience from your efforts?
