Help getting into hospitality
Posted by: EmmaB - Posted: December 22, 2020
After my previous post I had a message from the owner of stopwatch hospitality Paul Clark who very kindly offered his time from his schedule to have a phone call conversation with myself and offer tips on how I am best gaining experience in motorsport hospitality.
The call with Paul was very helpful and informative gaining a lot of information from his experience, some of the information that I gained from Paul included when I am best going to the race circuits during the meetings to speak to the teams and offering my time on a voluntary basis whether that would be making cups of tea for the mechanics to sweeping up the garage as this will help to show the teams that I am happy to carry out any duties that need to be completed. Paul advised that by doing this on a Friday or set up day this gives the teams more chance of being able to offer me some of their time for me to show them what I am capable of doing.
During the call Paul also gave me information on how I am best contacting teams if I want to speak to them before the start of next season or if I am unable to attend circuits on set up days and advised that if I know who is in charge of hospitality in the different teams then send them an email introducing myself and requesting a phone call conversation to discuss the email further in a couple of days. However is this is not the case then Paul advised that you should contact the team by phone enquiring who the head of hospitality is before sending an email to the relevant person to ensure that the email reaches the correct person.
Once Paul had given me all this information he then gave me the opportunity to ask my own questions and began to have a further discussion on what I have done in the past both as hospitality and also in motorsport in general, this gave me the opportunity to ask Paul what he believed was the best kind of hospitality for me to aim for with my experience that I have already gained whether I would be best going with a race team and following them around, working for a local circuit or a company like stopwatch hospitality who have suites at different circuits. Paul gave great advise on what he thought about the different types and honest opinions.
I found the phone call very helpful and informative and I am now working on the next step of working/ volunteering in motorsport hospitality.
I will keep you all informed on how it is all going throughout the different stages! but most importantly thankyou once again to Paul Clark at Stopwatch Hospitality and Student Motorsport
