motorsport engineering work placement

Posted by: Leeroy1 - Posted: September 1, 2021

Hi there, my name is Lee

I’m looking for some work placement opportunities anyone may have to offer that I would be interested in. I have moved over for the Isle of Man to pursue my career as a motorsports engineer.I have been a car mechanic for the past 5 years and have also achieved a NVQ level 3 in light vehicle maintenance and repair.

I have decided I would like to broaden my education into the racing side of things so I am starting a level 3 motorsport engineering course at Wiltshire College and University this September. If anyone has the space for me to come in a couple of days a week to help out or observe so I can learn more about the technical side to motorsports. I have a huge passion for Formula 1 and all motorsport, so a chance to be able to do this would be brilliant. I hope to hear from someone shortly many thanks, Lee

Good Afternoon Lee,

Welcome to Student Motorsport and the Engineering Channel, it’s great to have you as one of our new members!

Your drive to find the experience is good, and you have demonstrated commitment to this by moving from The Isle of Man!

Well done for achieving your level 3 and for gaining 5 years experience, we know that is not an easy task so you should be really pleased. You’ll also find you have a great experience at Wiltshire College we know the teaching team there, they have a really good range of staff and are well engaged in the motorsport industry.

So, we can certainly help guide you here so let’s get started, can you tell us a few things?

1. I know you started ‘the technical side of motorsports’ for gaining experience but we’d like to narrow down what sort of racing/part of the industry interests or inspires you. For example, is it single-seaters or saloon cars or something farther afield such as water, air racing or motocross? Is there a preference you have with regards to gaining more experience?

2. The 5 years experience you have to date, is any of that motorsport related, can you expand on this?

3. What (if you have tried seeking any) has your experience of finding work experience so far been like, and what success and sort of responses have you had if any?

Top Tip – We really recommend completing a full profile on our network, it is the first point of contact and thus the first impression…with respect, would you look at a blank profile for example?

Let’s try filling out a good bit of information on your Student Motorsport profile which will help you get the most out of our network. Start by adding a profile image as it is always nice to be able to ‘put a face to your name’ as they say. Then focus on completing more detailed areas as future employers out there will be interested in taking a look at your educational background, your interests and of course, see what your aims are so keep up the good work!

Hi there,

1. I would be interested in gaining knowledge into the single seater side of things within motorsport.

2. My five years experiance so far is not motorsport related it has all been on your day to day cars and vans.

3. I have only just started looking for a work placement but so far other than this page there isn’t a lot of help and support guiding you in the right direction.
