Good Afternoon Elyse,

Welcome to Student Motorsport and the Engineering Channel, it’s great to have you on board with us!

Your drive to find the experience is great, you seem super focused, but are you looking for a career in Aviation/Space or Motorsport or perhaps both?

If it’s motorsport we can certainly help guide you here, and if so let’s get started, can you tell us a few things?

1. What sort of racing/part of the industry interests or inspires you, for example, is it more single-seaters or bikes or something farther afield such as air racing or motocross? Is there a preference you have with regards to gaining more experience in engineering/aero you touched on?

2. Do you have any motorsport experience to date?

3. What has your experience of finding work experience so far been like, and what success and sort of responses have you had if any?

It’s also great to see you have completed a good bit of information on your Student Motorsport profile which will help you get the most out of our network.

Perhaps now add a profile image as it is always nice to be able to ‘put a face to your name’ as they say. Future employers out there will be interested in taking a look at your educational background, your interests and of course, see what your aims are so keep up the good work!

JP

Hi JP, thanks for replying! I would love one day to work in motorsport, hopefully formula one and I’m hoping that if I get into the uni course I’m aiming for I will be able to do a placement year with them then (as this is an option and f1 are highly involved).

1) As answered above! I’m very interested in cars and aerodynamics, and would like to learn about fluid dynamics. I think I would be happy with either motorsport or aerospace but I am more interested in cars and the like.

2 and 3) I’ve had no motorsport related work experience at all, so far all attempts to find/ gain suitable placements hasn’t worked out too well. As I said I’m still in school so couldn’t do for example a 40 week placement (I’ve seen quite a few like this). I’d say I am beginner level in knowledge right now too and a lot of places I’ve looked at want previous experience, which is understandable but not working in my favour.

I’m still trying and hoping to find a suitable one soon. I’ve signed up for emails from quite a few places so I get pinged when there’s an opportunity.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll try to find a decent photo!
